I've been doing this a while.

When I was 18 I joined the Edmonton Distress Line. I volunteered every Friday night from 9pm to 3am.

And I loved it.

All my time since then has been dedicated to learning how to do therapy. I got excellent training by excellent psychologists in Alberta.

I've learned that therapy needs to work. It sucks not feeling like yourself. I'll use every evidence-based technique I've picked up over the last 15 years to make sure you feel better, faster.

I also spend most of my time supervising and training student psychologists at the University of Alberta. This means I'm always learning new ways to help and how to make best use of our time together.

How do I work?

I use what we call an integrative approach. This means I dig into my compendium of clinical training to figure out what techniques and approaches best fit for you. For example, some people prefer focusing on emotions whereas others prefer thoughts, just as some people prefer homework and others don't.

This is a tailor-made approach to your therapy, because that's what gets results quicker.

We'll make an individualized treatment plan that works for you and uses evidence-based techniques. And if something isn't working (and sometimes it won't!), we have plenty of other tools and approaches to try out.

To make this easier, I'll also use measurement-based care, which is a fancy way of saying we'll use questionnaires to make sure things are on track. Doing this typically (a) improves your satisfaction with treatment, (b) reduces dropout, (c) leads to faster results. Without this, there's a real risk I miss when things aren't working out or when treatment has stalled.

This also means a lot of collaboration and honesty. You can expect to be an active and valued member in your treatment. In turn, you can expect my full authenticity and my steadfast commitment to helping you get better.
