Jonathan Dubue, PhD
Registered Psychologist

I've been doing this for a while.
I was 18 when I joined the Edmonton Distress Line. I volunteered every Friday night from 9pm to 3am.
And I loved every minute of it.
Since then, I've been learning as much as I can about how I can be a better helper. It started with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology (Honours), which focused on behavioural neuroscience, memory, and sleep. I took a year as the Program Lead of the Peer Support Center before starting, and completing, my Master's of Education in Counselling Psychology at the University of Alberta. From here, I went straight into my Ph.D., also at the University of Alberta, where I received over 900 supervised hours of clinical training. I completed my pre-doctoral residency with the Edmonton Clinical Psychology Consortium, one of Alberta's oldest APPIC membered training programs and received another 1700 hours of supervised practice. Both my Ph.D. and residency training were CPA-Accredited, meaning it meets Canada's highest standards of psychologist training. Through this, I worked in 15 different clinics including private practice, university clinics, medical centers, and hospitals.
This is just a long way of saying I have been trained by some of Alberta's best psychologists and am constantly working to make myself a better psychologist.
I use what we call an integrative approach. I believe your life is unique and that your therapy should match that. Together, we'll develop a treatment plan that fits your needs and your personality, one that uses evidence-based techniques to get you feeling better. And if something isn't working (and sometimes it won't!), we can modify our treatment plan and try a different type of treatment.
I focus on building an honest and open relationship where you feel understood and motivated to meet your goals. I value collaboration and feedback, so you can expect to be a respected and active member in your own treatment. I am also genuine and authentic, which means you get the real me every time we meet. I also love bringing humor into session, something my clients have often said they appreciated!
Outside of therapy, I'm usually playing role-playing games (like Dungeons and Dragons), video games, or a variety of sports! I'm also an amateur photographer, love local coffee, and spend a lot of time in the river valley.
There's a saying in mental health treatment that
every door is the right door.
If we don't fit, that's okay! It would be my pleasure to find you someone who does.
